Kagan Anti Military?

Supreme Court Nominee Elena Kagan

So the Republicans have been searching for something to use against Solicitor General Kagan and this seems to be there answer. The Republicans have been questioning why the senate would confirm a supreme court justice when she was anti-military. They claim she is anti-military because of her time as dean of Harvard Law School. Elena Kagan for the whopping time span of 1 semester banned U.S. Military recruiters from the campus because of the Military’s stand on don’t ask don’t tell. She later reversed the decision after a Bush policy was implemented that would cut a schools federal funding if they chose to not allow recruitment for the military to take place. So the Republicans are calling her anti-military for simply eliminating recruitment for 1 semester. Apparently this is all the dirt they can scrape up on this woman. She reversed the policy so that it would not affect the school and the students. She has also never made any anti military statements. However she stands by a principal that Obama also has the desire to change being DADT.

Some Republicans say she violated the law in banning the recruiters. If she violated the law then wouldn’t she have been punished under the law? Indeed but there was no law broken. Universities can and do choose when, where or if military recruiters can come on campus. She was simply doing her job and standing up for individuals rights to education. I think the Republicans are going to garner her much more support than opposition as they clearly are grasping at straws.
