Just How Dumb Is The CIA?

This question has been around since the massive failure of the Bay of Pigs invasion. Just how dumb is the CIA and the people who work for it? It can’t be so bad because super realistic tv shows like Covert Affairs and multiple movies portray it as the best of the best. According to these flicks the CIA never misses their mark and always gets their man but in reality failed CIA operations are all over the internet. Take today for example the finding of 9/11 interrogation tapes under a desk; after they were supposedly destroyed. The CIA even went to the extent of now lying to a federal court judge saying “there are no such tapes”.

The interrogation tapes that a staffer found in a box are of CIA operatives interrogating (allegedly) 9/11 mastermind Ramzi Binalshibh. The interrogation took place in one of the CIA’s black ops prisons in Morocco. No doubt Morocco was chosen for its bad reputation with prisoners and the ability to make them “disappear”. The tapes are to give an unparalleled view into the CIA counter terrorism tactics as well as to see if Binalshibh is in worse shape now than before. The reason we care about his health is because he appears to be literally insane now and may be unfit for a future trial.

The question here is how does the “best” spy agency in the world accidentally leave top secret tapes behind for a staffer to find? How did the staffer sneak it out of the CIA? Is the CIA really that bad and that dumb or did they plan this? It frightens me that a security breach like that is happening at a time where WikiLeaks jumps all over these mistakes. Frankly that means any low level staffer with little to no security clearance has access to secret material yet the agency has not spotted this problem?

While we as regular citizens don’t know the extent of successful operations it seems they’re now failing at the dumbest of things. Its like NASA being able to get us to the moon in the 60′s but failing to do it now. Do we really have our focus that far off that they can’t stop a simple leak? This is the 21st century and spy technology is unbelievable so I just find it hard to believe it was an “accident”. Although I’m not able to see what sense it would make to do it on purpose, as it shows they lied to a federal court judge and don’t care.

In a time where classified information is being slathered all over the internet it is unsettling that the CIA is even doing it themselves. Clearly the CIA still has a lot to learn as the agency is not even 80 years old and there have been more failures then I can count on my fingers. You be the judge is the CIA incapable or was it planned?
