Election 2010: Get Out And Vote!
It seems like these last two years have flown by but once again it is time for us to vote America. It is amazing the turnaround that can take place within a country and how quickly the minor differences can turn into full blown battles between parties. With this election we have a complete turnaround from that of the 2008 election year. The Tea Party has literally come out of no where, Republicans are scrambling to include them without giving up their seats and the Democrats are holding on for dear life. While many of you feel your vote is meaningless or a waste of time; I ask you to reconsider.
While politicians from any party are scumbags, for the most part, it is important to ask yourself who is the better scumbag? When Obama took office in 2008 it was very reminiscent of the Bush Presidency right after 9/11. They both had so much power in their hands and the nation was behind them but they both fucked it up. Now Democrats can’t run away from Obama fast enough and that’s largely our fault for only listening to the words “hope and change” rather than his policies. Even though Obama has not fully fulfilled his promises, although he is trying, we have to remember how bad 8 years of Bush and the Republicans were. This nation would be a slave to China if Bush was able to have another term. So even though you think your vote was wasted or you’re going to try a different party just remember how bad two and a half years ago was.
I also ask you to read up on your state/districts candidates who you will be voting for. I know plenty of people who strictly vote for one party without doing any research into the candidates themselves. While this shows your loyalty to the party; it does nothing for your intelligence or the country. The prime example of this is Delawares Republican Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell. She came out of left field endorsed by the Tea Party, as well as Sarah Palin, and got the Republican nomination simply because people heard she was “Tea Party endorsed.” I am shocked that people would vote for anyone who is endorsed by an unofficial political party let alone not typing her name into google. Now the Republicans in that state have no chance of winning because the constituents were so desperate for a Tea Party candidate.
It is expected that the Republicans will gain massive ground in both the Senate and the House tomorrow and I’m sure two years from now we will be kicking ourselves in the ass for being disappointed with “Obama’s Democrats” so early on. Those of you who don’t vote, over half of the country, can only thank yourselves when a candidate is elected who stomps on your beliefs. So do us all a favor and get out and cast an educated vote!
