Another American Revolution?

Sep 5, 2011 by

If you listen to the quiet and sometimes not so quite opinions of certain circles within the United States you should have noticed an uptick in resentment towards the U.S. Government and certain political factions. From both the left and right the last few years has seen a sharp decline in politicking and a drastic increase in mud slinging and hatred. The sides are continuing to drift further apart going into the 2012 election campaign and the former political foes now see each other as the ‘enemy.’ If you look hard enough you’ll find people calling for “action” and even revolution to oust those who’re bringing either side down. What should scare the United States government is that both sides view the current way things have been and are running as the main problem and as the Middle East has shown us the people always start with forcing out the old.

It is inevitable that the United States will undergo another revolution at some point but the question is will it be as violent as the ones that we have seen recently? What is frightening to me is that both sides are drawing equally thick lines in the sand and it seems destined to turn ugly. Even their own respective parties can’t seem to stick together without squabbling over what they think is best for the nation as the Republican candidates for president have demonstrated. Frankly politics have been thrown out the window by not only the base but the politicians as well. The base which is always easily ignited seems to have pushed the politicians into a corner typically reserved for cheesy daytime dramas. They have to come up with more outlandish things to say to keep the base fired up for them. What makes politicians different from TV is that people listen to politicians and when one side says something that strikes at the core of another’s base it fires up that base even more.

Ever since George W. Bush left office I have noticed a hatred come out of no where from the conservative circles. Wether it was the election of a Democrat, an African American or a “Muslim” that brought out the hatred isn’t the issue. The issue is how much hatred there is and the things that the conservative side is saying. I’ve seen everything from calling for the President and his administration to be jailed to wishing them dead as well as hatred and ignorance slung at “libtards and DemocRATS”.

When you cross over to the liberal side you have people who are so fed up with both the Bush administrations repressive reign and Obama’s lack of ability to change those repressive policies. While the conservative side has always been more violent in my opinion the liberal side is so far the only ones I have seen calling for a revolution of sorts. They feel that with Obama they voted for change and haven’t gotten it and they know that a Republican is bound to get into the top spot either this election or next and that spells disaster for them.

These two drastically different views are what will eventually clash in an ugly battle and it likely won’t be a war of words. Both sides seem to be moving beyond that everyday. The United States is bitterly divided and it should have the governments attention now. They shouldn’t send out the riot troops yet but what they should be doing is listening to the peoples growing anger. Not listening is what bit the leaders of many Middle Eastern countries in the ass. Is a violent upheaval likely in my lifetime? Probably not but if the way things are today are any indicator it is a no brainer that the United States will have a very different government in the future unless the government of today takes drastic steps to change the way all sides work together.

  1. What I find the most disturbing about the increasingly childish and malevolent behaviour of politicians of both factions is that people who slavishly support them have also adopted this way of acting and thinking.

How can people hold their government accountable if they can barely get along with each other? I really think that many politicians are too concerned with the short term goal of staying elected to act in the long term interests of their nation.

Liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, they don’t seem so different anymore.

It’s like no one is willing to listen to anyone’s opinion if it come from someone who is from a different political party. Either no one listens or it turns into a hate filled argument. What does it say about Americans when we are so thick that we can’t even listen to an opposing argument without wanting to smash something?

      Thanks again for commenting
