Is the Son of Kim Jong-il Trying to Outspend His Father as the People Starve?

Sep 19, 2011 by

Kim Jong-un spent $150 million to build his new estate next to his father and that's just the beginning of his spending.

North Korea’s heir-apparent Kim Jong-Un a twenty-something year old who has clearly never missed a meal is spending an estimated $1.5 billion to build a series of luxurious homes and offices for himself including $150 million on just one of his personal estates next door to his father. And what heir-apparent of the world’s only communistic dynasty could possibly stop at just that? In pure Jong-il style the next in line to wear the infamous Sweatsuit of Insanity is also constructing railways between his new villas and the family vacation resort. Of course Kim Jong-Un is saving a bit of money on the labor by forcing the locals to build our his private railroad for him. And I think we’re all starting to see why he was chosen to replace his father!

As if that’s not ridiculous enough. The South Korean Intelligence Agency has a few interesting facts about the family resort complex:

  • Includes a yacht dock and private railway station for the family.
  • The underground private railway and station connects to 28 of their 33 luxury homes.
  • Boasts a the level undersea viewing gallery allowing the family to view aquatic life 328 feet below sea level.
  • Kim Jong-un is spending $250 million to add additional office buildings including a larger great hall.
  • The resort is 28 stories high and is estimated to have cost over $700 million.
  • Kim Jong-il has six exclusive trains with a total of 90 cars and 19 train stations for his personal use only.

North Korea spent $150 million on Kim Jong-un's main residence. Includes a secret tunnel and private railway access.

Of course for the North Koreans who are not part of the ruling family life has never been easy but as Jong-il and Jong-Un continue to spend lavishly life is getting even more unbearable.

According to the World Food Progamme one third of all children in North Korea are dangerously malnourished and the public food rations provided to 68% of the country’s population did not meet even half their need. Over one quarter of pregnant or breast-feeding women are severely malnourished. The WFP stated that North Korea would have to import 867,000 tons of grain and rice but planned to buy less than 325,000 tons.

Apparently the North Korean strategy to prevent rebellion is to keep the people too weak to put up a fight. I must admit that it is working. A shame really as I guarantee that most malnourished North Koreans could easily run down those two fat bastards.

  1. Haha “Sweatsuit of Insanity”. Nice touch. The son seems to be really green. Perhaps he will not be able to hold onto power for as long as his father. If we’re lucky, both of them will die of obesity induced diseases. You’d think that as dictators, they should know not to eat so much because it might make them sick.
