First Rant Of The Year

Jan 3, 2012 by

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve done a weekly rant and I suppose I should change the category to “once in a blue moon rant” but nonetheless here we go.

Politics

As I’m sure you’ve heard there is a Presidential election this year and if you didn’t know that by now you shouldn’t be allowed to vote. The problem with this election compared to previous years dog and pony shows is that in an effort to either attract attention or end Obama’s reign early the caucuses have been moved up; way up. This move, first made by Florida, will only benefit those potential candidates with the most money and when it comes to cash Mitt Romney is King. This hasn’t stopped the news media from covering candidates who have both no money nor a chance in hell of winning the election (see Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry). Ok Rick Perry has a fair amount of money but he can’t count how much he has. In a campaign season that is moving months ahead of schedule I’m perplexed as to why we are wasting time on people who cannot win the nomination or Presidency and are only in the race “spotlight” because they keep saying insane things.

Iran

First of all let me just say that Iran is a fucking joke and if it wasn’t for North Korea and their pudgy leader Iran would take the crazy cake. Iran has taken Theodore Roosevelt’s principle of “walk tall and carry a big stick” and shortened it to “walk tall”. Oddly every nation knows this yet we continue to take them seriously instead of laughing them off the world stage. They’re pulling the same strings as North Korea and when the pressure gets too strong they eventually pull back to a relatively sane state but I find it ridiculous that we or anyone else bothers to listen to their tirades. Yes they want nuclear weapons but we have the capability to prevent and destroy anything they intend to make or deploy. Now having just said that they’re crazy I know this next bit will sound weird. I don’t understand why they aren’t allowed to have nuclear power/weapons. Who put the United States in charge of telling who can and can’t have them. Russia still has thousands of them even though the lost hundreds after the Iron Curtain fell. Nuclear weapons haven’t been used in anger since world war II and I doubt they will again and even if Iran was brazen enough to try to they’d be turned into a glass factory a million times over. North Korea has nukes and even that crazy son of a bitch Kim Jong-il wasn’t dumb enough to press that dusty red button. I think if Iran wants nuclear power and weapons then they should be allowed to have them. Think of it as giving them just enough rope to hang themselves with.

Tech Blogs

Are there any independent technology blogs left? I’ve ended up deleting all of my subscriptions to Tech Crunch, Ars Technica, Gizmodo and a few more because all of them seem to be so far up Apples ass that they know what Tim Cook had for breakfast before he does. Android devices are selling at the rate of 5 million a week or 65 million a quarter compared to Apples 30 million a quarter yet oddly enough the Apple tech blogs continue to shit on Android. Steve Jobs’ autobiography revealed that he hated Google’s Android so much that it was his goal to destroy it. Considering that most of the tech blogs are now owned by large corporations I’d be willing to bet good ole Apple is paying a hearty portion of those bloggers salaries. Here’s a 100% biased excerpt from a Tech Crunch article,

How did this happen? Certainly not because Android is better. Almost no one disputes that Apple’s user experience is superior. Thanks to Android’s horrific fragmentation problems, the Android version that developers write apps for – 2.2, which was released in May 2010 – is distinctly inferior to iOS 5. The iPhone 4S is a fantastic high-end phone, the 4 a terrific mid-level one, and the 3GS still a respectable player in the free-with-contract market. So why has everyone gone Android? Source: Tech Crunch

I’ve owned an iPhone, own an iPad and an iPod touch and I can say that Androids Gingerbread is far better in many areas when compared to the iOS. With 700,000 new Android phones being activated DAILY I’d say many more would agree with me than Tech Crunch.

Military Spending Bill

Most of the spending bill was your standard throwing of money into a bottomless pit however there was one part that should have all of us American’s shitting our pants. The Republicans added a provision to the bill that gives the military the authorization to detain American citizens captured or arrested on American soil and be detained indefinitely without a trial or hearing. Obama signed the bill into law even though he objected the provision and said that it would never be used however he can’t speak for future presidents. I’d bet my life savings that George Bush and Dick Cheney would have used this. Last I checked the military was not a law enforcement entity and even when they have been put into that roll (Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib) they have failed at it. Not even the FBI has the power to arrest you and throw away the key without a trial. Why? Because it’s un-American, and unconstitutional, yet the military is given free reign. Why in the world would the military need the power to keep American citizens locked up forever even though they’re not patrolling the streets? Ask Obama.
