Obama Is Prepared To Strike Iran

Jan 10, 2012 by

Republican Presidential candidates have routinely criticized President Obama’s handling of a nuclear ambitious Iran all while the commander in chief was making it very clear to his cabinet that he is prepared to use force. Obama considers a nuclear armed Iran so big a threat that if diplomacy were to fail he wouldn’t think twice about blowing their nuclear dreams to bits; literally. The president’s former special assistant on Iran said that “the Iranians should never think that there’s a reluctance to use the force.” This recent development probably wasn’t intended to stop the Republicans from criticizing but the more likely reason was to send a recently aggressive Iran a message to sit down and shut up.

Dennis Ross, who served two years on Obama’s National Security Council and a year as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s special adviser on Iran said that while “there are consequences if you act militarily” there are also “big consequences if you don’t act.” His statements to Bloomberg were to push back against the wave of criticism that Obama has been handling the situations with the diplomatic version of kid gloves. Ross said that the Obama administration fears a nuclear armed Iran more than the risk of military action and possible war. His comments also came on the heels of both top uniformed and civilian officials saying that developing a nuclear bomb would cross the line and precipitate a military action.

A quick search shows that the world agrees Iran shouldn’t have a nuclear bomb and many nations feel that the war dance is in full swing. Russian analysts are stating that they would expect a conflict with Iran by the end of the month and the timing doesn’t seem to be incorrect. The United States has amassed a large armada of naval ships in the waters near Iran and Iran has been conducting war games in which they also threatened a U.S. aircraft carrier. Both friendly nations and the not so friendly nations seem to have their forces at a constant state of high alert that shows just how tense the region is currently. Then you have to take into account the diplomatic escalations which include the UN’s nuclear agency confirming that Iran is enriching uranium at a new site and Iran sentencing a former United States Marine to death.

The United States and Israel are also planning to hold the “largest ever” missile defense drill which will come after Israel completes several war games. American military personnel will be landing in Israel to the tune of several thousand and with them comes sophisticated missile equipment that is going to stay put for months. Other sources have confirmed that the Untied States is shifting around lots of equipment and personnel to its other bases within the Middle East. All of this however is again the delicate dance that leads up to a full scale war. The situation is quickly approaching its climax and any delay on military action on the allied side would add to the surprise factor however with information on the military movements coming out at a rapid fire rate I would assume that this is to push Iran back onto the straight and narrow. The American public isn’t ready for another war but Iran isn’t giving us much of a choice.

The United States also faces the issue of losing all credibility if they do not intervene against Iran militarily if they do in fact obtain a nuclear bomb. Both President Bush and now Obama have sworn that they would never let Iran obtain nukes and both have now threatened military action to prevent nukes from falling into their hands. Even if the United States and the most of the world was prepared to live with a nuclear armed Iran Ross says that he wouldn’t rule out independent military action from Israel who stands to potentially lose the most.

“You don’t have any communication between the Israelis and the Iranians. You have all sorts of local triggers for conflict. Having countries act on a hair trigger — where they can’t afford to be second to strike, the potential for a miscalculation or a nuclear war through inadvertence is simply too high,” he said. “I wouldn’t discount the possibility that the Israelis would act if they came to the conclusion that basically the world was prepared to live with Iran with nuclear weapons,” he said. “They certainly have the capability by themselves to set back the Iranian nuclear program.”

War looks to be inevitable but there is still room for diplomacy. No matter how crazy the leaders of a country are they don’t want to risk losing their grasp on power or suffer a crippling defeat by an enemy. If Iran is stupid enough to continue to throw treaties and world peace out the window then they will quickly find out just how hard we can strike. This is one war that the United States can win with our hands tied behind our backs, uniformed military against uniformed military. Good luck Iran you need it a hell of a lot more than we do.
